		<description><![CDATA[Page Rank which is at the heart of Google, was actually developed by their two founders while they were graduate students at Stanford.  Sergey Brin was quoted as saying his faculty advisor actually helped him chose to work in that area.  I actually believe that Stanford received Google stock for its contribution.

Mosaic which was the orginal browser that opened the world wide web to most of us on the PC was developed by a team at the University of Illinois.  

The first web server in the US was launched at Stanford.  So universities can and are making IT contributions even if they are not as prominent as when the industry was a lot smaller.]]></description>
